Nick Ashwood

Nick Ashwood is an Australian guitarist living in Hobart, Tasmanian working in the field of experimental, improvised and composed music. His main focuses have been exploring and utilizing the acoustic possibilities of the steel string acoustic guitar by means of prepared guitar, just intonation and bowed guitar.

He has collaborations with Australian and International musicians that include; Laura Altman, Jim Denley, Catherine Lamb, Clara de Asis, Robbie Avenaim, Dale Gorfinkel, Amanda Stewart, Splinter Orchestra and Fredrik Rasten.

From 2017 Nick has been running his own programming in Hobart tilted, sonic. The programming has had a focus on improvisation/experimental and new music, the program has now had over ten successful shows, four workshops and a two-day


festival. Artist have come from both Australia and around the world including, Isabelle Duthoit, Franz Hautzinger, Robbie Avenaim, Laura Altman, Jason Kahn, Jim Denley, Amanda Stewart, and Greg Kingston.

Nick has also become a key member in running the Sydney record label, Splitrec. Alongside Jim Denley, they have been working on new releases, interviews and all the logistics of running a label.
